End of the Year Thoughts
What is Your Prospective?
How do you feel about the last year? Was it productive? Did you reach the
milestones you so vividly imagined last January? Are you ready to continue on
your quest for another year or do you feel burned out and stagnate?
The beauty of life is that no matter where we find ourselves at any given
moment, we have the choice to move in a different direction and re-position
ourselves. Commit to a thorough examination of the activities of the past
year and resolve to implement the necessary changes to improve your results
in the coming year. It’s never too late to start over. Happy Improvement!
Another Defining Moment
In last month’s newsletter, I wrote that a defining moment in your life is
when you clearly recognize where your weaknesses lie and you move to reduce
their impact on your business and personal life. That is an important
process. What is an even more critical effort is for you to recognize the
strengths with which you are blessed and capitalize on them. We are each
given sufficient strengths and talents to achieve our purpose. Recognize your
weaknesses and build on your strengths—a winning combination that can make
next year your best year ever.
Three Wishes for You
To each of you who have been receiving this newsletter, let me take this
opportunity to thank you for your continued loyalty. It has been such a
pleasure to share my thoughts on leadership and success with you this past
year. As we move into 2003, I’d like to offer three wishes for you:
My first wish is that you’ve found usefulness with the ideas shared and that
in some way life has improved when you applied the information shared.
Secondly, as we approach the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus
Christ, I hope the spirit of Christmas helps to deepen your personal
spiritual base. Grounding spiritually is so critical as we face the
day-to-day obstacles life puts before us.
Finally, my New Year’s wish for you is that you will find balance and be able
to place the important things first. Life is a short process. Let’s all work
to get it right!

Generosity—A Great Leadership Idea
John Maxwell’s book, “The 21 Indispensable Qualities of A
Leader,” is a great read. One of the leadership qualities Maxwell mentions is
generosity. This is a great time of the year to assess our own generosity.
How much of yourself have you given to others these past months? The true
spirit of giving is to do so without seeking a reward for the effort. Leaders
are grateful for what they have and willingly serve those they lead. If you
are truly interested in making 2003 the best year ever, make generosity a
part of your character and the foundation upon which you build your successes
and leadership skills.
Share Your Ideas About Parenting Skills
Last month I received several excellent parenting tips from

invitation to everyone who receives this newsletter to send in his or her
parenting tips. If you are interested in sharing, please email your tips to

I’d love to hear from you and include you in my new
book, Teaching Your Child To Succeed.

Tip of the Month
“If you are not ready today, you will be even less prepared
tomorrow.”
I often tell audiences that the only moment we have total
control over is NOW! What you do with your “now moment” will determine your
future. Proper preparation is the key to successful achievements. Commit to
“getting ready” so your tomorrows are better than your yesterdays.
Children Are Our Most Important Resource
As you spend time assessing your year, one important
element to consider is what type of message you send to youngsters who
interact with you? If you have children, do you model the lessons you tell
them to follow? Children are our future and we can ill afford to do a poor
job of teaching them the “right stuff.”
Professionally and personally I’ve made a commitment to speak to more
students this coming year. They have not been an audience of choice for me in
the past although I began my career as a high school teacher and coach. I’ll
begin by teaching a Junior Achievement class and will strive to do other
events as opportunities present themselves.
