Turning Lemons Into Lemonade By Billy Arcement, M.Ed.
Everyone
can imagine the taste of a mouthful of lemon juice.
It puckers the mouth and brings a frown to our face. Not a pleasant experience—one that we probably wouldn’t
want to experience. Sometimes life treats us
like lemon juice. Events
sour our taste and kill our internal motivation to achieve.
We give up. And,
like the drink of lemon juice, we never try the experience
again. Reacting to life this way is
the thinking and action of a loser.
Winners find a way to take a bitter experience and turn
it into a sweet one. Winners
take the lemon juice life offers, add water and sugar to improve
the taste, and make a refreshing glass of lemonade.
One must look at every event of life as a lesson to
improve. We must
learn from these lessons and neutralize their bitterness with
new, creative activities. We
must constantly strive to turn bitterness into sweetness.
It is this action that develops a desire
for success. Once
we learn to act this way, we never have to revert back to
allowing bitterness to dominate our thinking. Our commitment to success is
tied to opportunities—those
fleeting moments for improving our position in life.
We must open our eyes to the opportunities around us and
be willing to take immediate action.
Sometimes opportunity only knocks once.
Sometimes, it hits us over the head with a baseball bat
and we still don’t react.
Be alive and alert.
There is always enough opportunity to make our life the
success we want it to be. But,
we must prepare. The greatest gift we possess
is our mind. It is
more powerful then the fastest and smartest computer invented.
It is this wonderful masterpiece that fuels our imagination. All
inventions began as an idea in someone’s imagination.
Use this free gift to propel yourself over obstacles.
Use this gift to free your life of bitterness and pain.
Use this gift to drive you when events are their darkest.
You have all the imagination you need to be as successful
as you wish to be. Finally, simply spend time thinking.
With our mind, we can think about strategies to use
to help us on our journey to success.
But, thinking is hard work.
Most avoid it. We
are mentally lazy and many times that translates into physical
laziness. We do not
act. We lack
desire; we miss opportunities; we don’t trust our imagination
and we simply don’t think.
Thus, our life does not change. Follow the formula for
making your lemonade. Use
the first letter of the four points made to form these two
words—DO IT!
This is the recipe for success and your water and
sugar for your lemon juice. Drink up my friends. Life has much lemonade to offer. Your task is to identify where the sugar and water are kept. How much lemonade you make really comes down to how thirsty you are!
