He deftly leverages his twelve years of board service, two as State President of the Louisiana School Boards Association, to create his “Children First” philosophy. In his training sessions and board retreats, Billy shares methods to build board unity and teamwork; grow leadership skills; avoid conflict; bring visionary thinking to the forefront, work effectively with the superintendent, and to clarify roles and responsibilities of board members to ensure stronger, more productive and more cohesive relationships.
Expertise that counts: Over the past 25 years, Billy has presented at National School Board Association (NSBA) Conventions, NSBA President’s Retreats, State Association Conventions, and worked directly with a wide spectrum of school boards in a retreat setting. He is the author of a large volume of articles published in the American School Board Journal and in a number of state association magazines. Because of his expertise on school board service, he provides candid commentary on the right way to serve children, parents, school employees, and fellow board members.
After attending Billy’s retreats, Board members feel better prepared and more confident in their ability to avoid the pitfall of “board politics” freeing them from political pressures that all too often plague elected officials.
